This subreddit is intended for users to request and suggest anime/manga/light-novels and visual novels to others.
- What to Watch? — For asking for recommendations about what anime to watch.
- Watch This! [at least 1500 characters] — Long-form writings which encourage readers to watch a certain anime by analyzing its strengths and weaknesses.
- Manga/LN/VN — For asking for recommendations about what manga/LN/VN to read.
- What's this From? (unsolved) — For asking questions about the source of a specific anime scene, image, or reference that remains unsolved.
- What's this From (solved) — For when your question about identifying the source of a specific anime scene, image, or reference has been answered.
- Series Specific Question — For specific questions about an anime series, its plot, characters, or any related details.
- Meta — For subreddit related matters. Should this post be about the subreddit, please contact the moderators via modmail to approve it accordingly.
This rule is very important, and it is suggested that you read through this section carefully. Posting untagged spoilers is a quick way to get banned.
A spoiler is a piece of information from a show that knowledge of without having seen the show could negatively impact a viewer's experience. An easy example is knowing the twist of a movie prior to watching it. By having knowledge of said twist, all the surprise and suspense will be lost because you already know what happens. Note that this is a very broad and obvious example, and we limit more than this.
Generally speaking, anything you don't learn in the first few minutes of the first episode should have a spoiler tag.
- All spoilers must be tagged
- No spoilers in the title
- If the title of a post says it contains spoilers from a specific show, no spoilers in that post or its comments need be tagged, except when they're about events happening after a specified episode given by the OP (e.g. episode 100 spoilers have to be tagged when the thread says it's about episode 50).
- If you're using mobile Reddit, old Reddit, or Markdown Mode use this format:
>!Spoiler text!<
. It will look like this Spoiler text . - If you're using desktop Reddit, simply highlight the text you want marked as a spoiler and click the exclamation mark-shaped spoiler button to mark the selected text as a spoiler.

What to Watch?Favorite Anime and Why
30 Upvotes
If you were to pick one anime to call an 10,000/10 (like an all around masterpiece) that you would recommend to me, what would it be and why (so I can decide whether to watch it or not)?
Personally for me it’s Bungou Stray Dogs because of the diversity and complexity in the characters, the unpredictable and wonderful plot, it’s unique interplay of comedy and tragedy, the rejection of archetypes, the wide range of themes it conveys and deals with, and the overall enjoyment (I mean who doesn’t like crazy detective stuff with magical abilities?- it’s got everything) :)

What to Watch?Looking for an anime where multiple OP characters are influencing the world or working toward different goals that goes against each other

Like some sort of group or council or whatever, with good and bad characters each of are some of the strongest in the world, some are working toward evil goals, and some toward good goals.
The more mature the better (hopefully with less or no FanSer)

What to Watch?Animes that are NOT a good watch
• Upvotes
[Flare is irrelevant, probably]
What animes do you know that is just so bad that it makes reading Skyrim's code in arabic feel relaxing
Something that would make listening to "Baby Shark Slowed+Reverb 1 Hour" be akin to listening to Mozart live on stage
Animation so bad that my Power Point Presentation from highschool look like eye candy
[[The statements above are exaggerated]]
Why you might ask? Its because a friend of mine is ranting about anime in general being "peak entertainment" and "the best of the best" despite only watching the top dogs of anime and being a complete dick about it.

What to Watch?Romcom with heterossexual stupid + stupid dynamic
• Upvotes
I'm watching Wotaku ni Koi Muzukashi and loving their stupid otaku dynamic, they're way too cute. So I want more of it. Already watched Kaguya-sama (loved it) and that one with the scientists (they're fine I guess) and waiting my GF to watch Lovely Complex.

What to Watch?Anime with mc with the indomitable human spirit.
I haven't really watched anything like this. I want hype. Maybe like Tokyo Ghoul?
Where the mc keeps going to defeat the enemy with broken ribs and hand and 7 orhan failures showcasing the mighty indomitable spirit. He suffers a lot but keeps on living.
I was just feeling superior to be a part of the best species call hom*osapiens and wanted something cool like this to watch.

What to Watch?Looking for Overpowered Isekai Anime Recommendations
• Upvotes
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for some good isekai anime where the main character is overpowered or becomes overpowered over time. I've already watched the following:
- The Misfit of Demon King Academy
- That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
- In Another World With My Smartphone
- Wise Man's Grandchild (I think that's the one I mean)
- Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
I've seen a few more but can't recall their names right now.
Could you please suggest some more anime like these? Thanks in advance!

What to Watch? Can you suggest animes about struggling to survive in a world run by big corporations?
Cyberpunk Edgerunners is a perfect example of what I'm looking for.
It doesn't need to be cyberpunk-esque or anything. Just a story like Edgerunners where big corporations run the world, and protagonist is struggling to survive.
If the anime is a tragedy, that's a big plus.

Preferably I'd love to see more anime/mang like Pluto, Inuyashiki and Ghost in the Shell where the cyborgs/robots are camouflaged to look unmistakeably human on the outside but are all machine inside and can unfold compartments to reveal hidden weapons and gadgets.

Manga/LN/VN
2 Upvotes
Hi there. I have tough request for anyone up to the challenge.
I'm looking for a manga recommendation, that's similar to a certain video game called "Fear & Hunger". Those who have played it know exactly what I mean by simply the mention of the title alone, but here's a brief summary of the game for those who haven't:
Fear and Hunger is a dark fantasy, horror JRPG, inspired heavily by Berserk, Silent Hill, and the Souls video game series. It's about four... I guess you can call them adventurers, each with a vastly different background, descending to the "dungeons of Fear and Hunger", a wartime prison, that has long since been abandoned for reasons unknown. Each of those people is on a mission of their own, but all of them have a single common element - a mercenary captain, who had descended there prior. All of those people need to find the captain, but each with a different motivation. Some want to save him, while the others want to kill him, be it justly on unjustly. As they descend further and further into the stronghold, eventually crossing paths with each other, and joining together, they discover there's something sinister about the whole place, involving ancient artifacts, fallen civilizations, old prophecies, evil rituals, and conflicts between gods for dominance.
Given the inspirations the game took, I know it'd feel obvious to some to recommend Berserk, so I'm gonna say it before anyone does - that ain't it. Berserk fits visually and partially in regards to themes, but Berserk spans a much larger scope of events. In order for it to be like Fear and Hunger, it'd have to involve Guts having to investigate who exactly The God Hand are, and why Griffith did the things he did. A much smaller, more focused storyline.
Obviously, the manga itself doesn't have to be a carbon copy in terms of storyline, cause that'd be a bit boring if I could predict every plot point along the way. I'd rather have something that's similar enough, but does its own thing. A fantasy horror manga taking place in a single location, that involves a group of people trying to unveil the mystery behind it and coming to horrifying conclusions, and doesn't shy away from all sorts of taboos.
Finished manga only. I don't feel like waiting for something that may or may not be finished one day. Thanks in advance.

Series Specific QuestionAnime like Afro Samurai.

So I just watched the series and movie for Afro Samurai. I love the American Samurai feel, and the somewhat ranking with the number 2, and 1 being the strongest. If there are any recommendations that are kind of based on that type of anime definitely let me know.

What to Watch? What anime are actually better or at least as good dubbed?
I'm almost exclusively a sub guy but my wife is the exact opposite.
I grew up watching iconic dubs like FMA, Yu Yu Hakusho and dragon ball. I've heard I need to watch Gurren lagen in English dub also.
If you have any others that are really good dubs I would appreciate suggestions. Maybe it will give me and my wife some more things to watch together.
Thanks.
Edit: I realize now that I'm such a nerd that I've seen almost all the ones people are suggesting but most of them I've only seen subbed so they are still great suggestions and I appreciate it.
Here's a running list of some of the more common suggestions
Death Note - never seen sub or dub (for shame)
Cowboy Bebop - started so many times never finished
Steins Gate - seen a few, gonna switch to dub
DBZ - obviously dubbed but never finished
Ouran highschool host club - switching to dub
Cyberpunk - I think I watched that dub but I'll check
Black Lagoon - in my watchlist. I'll start dub
Ghost in the shell - I saw it on AS and loved it
Baccano! - if it's set in America I guess I gotta go dub
Thanks for the lists so far!
Edit 2, electric boogaloo: I don't hate dubs and I don't watch subs for "cool points". I've had bad experiences with bad dubs likely caused by bad directors. Many people are telling me that all dubs are good after (variable ) year. That may be true but if it were idk if so many would people have have lists of good dubs and dubs to avoid....

What to Watch? In the mood to see a female-lead battle series
0 Upvotes
Sorry if this is vague, but I've been looking for something new that can scratch this itch. I'm hoping to find a good show I might not have heard about before that follows a cool teen or adult woman going out and having fun fights with other people. Hopefully something with a bit of a mid tone that isn't super grimdark but also has a bit of bite to it, but if people know about something neat I'm up for it.
I've seen Kill la Kill and loved it, so if anything people know of has a similar vibe to that it might help narrow things down a bit. Any fun romance elements would also be appreciated.
Oh yeah, I've also watched Akame ga Kill, so if that could kind-of count it's off the table. I'm also not a huge Isekai fan and I'm looking for something willing to actually challenge the main lead, so stuff like that's out, as well.
If anyone has follow-up questions to help figure out something specific I'm free to chat, but I think that should just about cover it, I guess.

What to Watch?Summer themed anime

I’m looking for a summer themed anime or something like that. I guess slice of life genre. Little to no fan service and a good plot. Crunchyroll, netflix, hulu, and prime would work.

What to Watch?Anime’s with absolutely ridiculous/insane fights and feats of strength like One punch man?
I just watched one of my first anime’s, OPM.
I liked it so much I read the manga. Season 1 of OPM especially the animation of the final fight was incredible.
I’m not gonna spoil it but I want to see some anime fights on the same caliber as Saitama vs cosmic garou. Like destroying entire planets/galaxy sh*t.
Also I hope the characters are likeable like saitama, I love that dude so much.
