As someone who has lived in Paris for over a decade and works as a tour guide, I’ve had the pleasure of eating my way around this beautiful city. Lucky Me! From hidden gems to iconic spots, I’ve narrowed down my top recommendations for first-time visitors. Whether you’re in the mood for traditional French cuisine, international flavors, or something a bit more unique, here are my must-visit places to eat in Paris. Let me share a quick selection with you – Lucky You!

1. Chez Janou

For a taste of southern France in a vibrant and lively atmosphere, Chez Janou is a must. Nestled in the heart of the Marais, this bustling bistro serves up delicious Provençal dishes. Their menu features everything from ratatouille to a massive bowl of chocolate mousse that’s perfect for sharing.

At lunchtime when the weather is nice this is a quiet heaven to get away from the hustle of le Marais! They’re a bit old school and you won’t be able to make réservations online but I suggest you stop by before or call at 01 42 72 28 41

Location: 2 Rue Roger Verlomme, 75003 Paris
Best for: Lunch or dinner

2. Le Marché des Enfants Rouges

Step into Paris’s oldest covered market and discover a variety of small restaurants offering cuisine from around the world. Whether you’re craving Italian, Moroccan, or French dishes, this market has something to satisfy every palate. It’s an ideal spot for lunch with a local vibe.

My favorite japanese restaurant is inside Marche des Enfant Rouge and I love getting their chicken bento box. If you’re looking for more upscale but in a relaxed setting with great natural wine selection then Enfants Du Marche is it!

Location: 39 Rue de Bretagne, 75003 Paris
Best for: Lunch

3. Bistro Paul Bert

For a classic French dining experience, Bistro Paul Bert is the place to go. Known for its perfectly cooked steak-frites, this bistro is quintessentially Parisian. The ambiance is charmingly old-school, making it a favorite among both locals and tourists.

At some point I think everyone has been to Bistrot Paul Bert its unassuming and always yummy!

Location: 18 Rue Paul Bert, 75011 Paris
Best for: Dinner

4. Jah Jah & Soya

If you’re looking for vegetarian or vegan options, Jah Jah by Le Tricycle and Soya are two of my top picks. Jah Jah offers vibrant, plant-based Afro-Caribbean bowls, while Soya specializes in organic, vegan dishes with a Mediterranean twist. Both are delicious and offer a healthy break from heavier French fare.

The street that Jah Jah is on is one of my favorites and will be featured in my new book Local Paris – it’s full of gastronomical and foodie gems this side of Paris.

Locations:
Jah Jah – 11 Rue des Petites Écuries, 75010 Paris
Soya – 20 Rue de la Pierre Levée, 75011 Paris
Best for: Lunch or dinner

5. Ducasse sur Seine

For a truly special dining experience, book a dinner on the Ducasse sur Seine. This luxury cruise offers gourmet French cuisine as you glide along the Seine, with stunning views of Paris’s most iconic landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower. It’s perfect for a memorable night out.

For those special moments when you want something to take your breath away – and not a typical touristy boat ride – this is serious French cuisine par excellence!

Location: Port Debilly, 75116 Paris
Best for: Special event dinner

6. Crêperie Suzette

Craving crêpes? Head to Crêperie Suzette in Le Marais for a classic French treat. From savory galettes to sweet crêpes, this cozy spot offers a variety of options that make for a perfect casual meal.

A great yet tiny spot – you have to try their CARNIVALET galette (gluten-free because its traditionally made with buckwheat) with ham, egg, and cheese!

Location: 24 Rue des Francs Bourgeois, 75003 Paris
Best for: Lunch or dinner

7. Maggie @ Hotel Rochechouart

For a stunning view of Paris, Maggie’s rooftop bar at Hotel Rochechouart is the place to be. Pair your meal with a co*cktail as you take in panoramic views of the city, including the Sacré-Cœur. The menu is light, fresh, and perfect for a sunny day.

Be sure to check their website to see if the rooftop is open – then make your réservations my loves. One of the best pea soup appetizers in my life was on this rooftop.

Location: 55 Boulevard de Rochechouart, 75009 Paris
Best for: Drinks and light bites

8. Café de l’Homme

Located in the Trocadéro, Café de l’Homme offers one of the best views of the Eiffel Tower. The menu features refined French cuisine, and the terrace is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a special occasion.

The price tag van be a bit steep – but I give everything on this menu a 10/10 chef Fadi Frem has done such an amazing job that my jaw dropped with every dish.

Location: 17 Place du Trocadéro et du 11 Novembre, 75116 Paris
Best for: Dinner with a view

9. Arpège

For those looking to splurge, Arpège is a three-Michelin-starred restaurant by chef Alain Passard. Known for its exceptional vegetarian dishes, Arpège is a must for foodies. The tasting menu is an unforgettable journey through seasonal French cuisine.

This one is for the foodie!

Location: 84 Rue de Varenne, 75007 Paris
Best for: Fine dining

10. Noglu

If you’re gluten-free, Noglu is a fantastic option. This trendy café and bakery offer a wide range of gluten-free pastries, sandwiches, and dishes that don’t compromise on flavor. It’s a cozy spot for a relaxed lunch or a coffee break.

Location:69 rue de Grenelle, 75007 Paris
Best for: Lunch or pastries

Bonus Recommendations

  • Sandwiches: For a quick and delicious sandwich, (++ Croissants and Baguettes) try Pain Pain in Montmartre, Bo et Mie close to the Louvre, Au Merveilleux de Versailles in Le Marais.
  • Coffee: Stop by Olas, Fringe, Partisan, Le Peloton, or Broken Biscuits for a great cup of coffee.
  • Wine: Enjoy a glass of wine at Causeries or the iconic Bar Hemingway for a classy night.
  • Pastries: Don’t miss the exquisite treats at Fou de Pâtisseries (Paris’ one-stop pastry shop for Top Chefs), Pierre Hermé for macarons, Copain for delicious gluten-free everything, and Jacques Genin for chocolates.
  • Tea: Dammann Frères is my top pick for a refined tea experience.

These are just a few of my favorite spots in Paris. Whether you’re looking for a casual bite or a memorable dining experience, I hope these recommendations help you enjoy the culinary delights of the city as much as I do. Bon appétit!
