    Atilla Kan, a D.C.-area restaurateur who dished out Mediterranean flavors for nearly 50 years, died June 13. He was 82.
    A native of Turkey, Kan was noted locally as founder of The Perfect Pita, which he and his family established in 1994. What started as a single takeout spot led to 14 different locations in the region, as well as a wholesale business offering pita, hummus and other Mediterranean foods.

    Nearly 1,400 homes and businesses are without power in and around Virginia Square.
    The outage is affecting parts of the Virginia Square, Ballston and Ashton Heights neighborhoods. The cause is “pending investigation” and restoration is expected between 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

    Arlington County police say an 18-year-old Alexandria man shot and critically wounded another man in Courthouse last month.
    ACPD announced the arrest of A-Jay Jones today, saying he pulled the trigger outside of a Courthouse hotel early on the morning of May 19. Police previously said the shooting happened as a result of a dispute between two groups of people.
    “The investigation into the additional suspects involved in the shooting is ongoing,” police noted.
