EPHS 2024 Awards Night
East Providence High School held its annual Class Night for the 2023-24 term on Monday, June 3, when members of both the senior and junior classes were recognized with scholarships and academic awards.

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School Senior Class of 2024 took part in commencement ceremonies Friday evening, June 7, at Pierce Memorial Stadium.
Nathan Tavares was the class valedictorian, Will Laroche the salutatorian and Eva Laroche the third highest ranked academic, known in East Providence as the aveditorian. Jeffrey Bento was class president with Aguida DeSousa vice president.
Of note as well, the Class of 2024 included nine sets of twins, including the aforementioned Laroche siblings, as well as a set of triplets Ella DeCosta, Trent DeCosta, Trey DeCosta. The twins also included: Andria DoSoito, Logan DoSoito; Hans Gould, Hanna Gould; Giliana Hernandez, Jayliana Hernandez; Alyssa Potrzeba, Brandon Potrzeba; Tyler Quadros, Zachary Quadros; Sofia Santos, Pedro Santos; Damian Sarkis, Nathan Sarkis; and Hailey Vieira, Kaylee Vieira.
Principal Bill Black oversaw his third graduation since taking the position in the winter of 2022.
His opening remarks included the following passage: "Tonight, we gather to celebrate an awesome milestone in your lives. This is a celebration of years of hard work and dedication. As your principal, I am honored to share this moment with you. This is our final time together as the class of 2024. Personally, this is my favorite part of being a principal."
The gist of his speech centered around the phrase, "This too shall pass," which he noted, "carries a timeless message, one that has been a source of comfort and wisdom. It reminds us our experiences will be both happy and challenging at times. "
Black concluded his address with these words, "As you step into the future, you are armed with the knowledge you have gained, remember that life will continue to present you with many experiences. There will be new challenges to face, new goals to achieve, and new obstacles to overcome.
"When you find yourself in moments of doubt or hardship, recall these four words: 'This too shall pass.' It is a reminder that the pain of today can be the strength of tomorrow...As you move forward, remember the words, 'This too shall pass. Embrace every experience, knowing that with each passing moment, you are growing into the person you are meant to be."
